3 Day Workshop Package
August 13th, 14th, & 15th
$495
This package includes a full weekend of throwing, glazing, and firing with the master himself! In this 3-Day workshop, participants can bring up to 15+ bisqued pieces to glaze with Tom Coleman using the various methods and techniques he will demonstrate. Dimensions need to be within 6" × 6” x 6” (cups, mugs, bowls, tea bowls, smaller vessels) Feel free to a few medium to large pieces within 12” x 12 “ x 12”. Participants will fill our large 54 cubic ft Geil kiln, along with Tom's pieces. We’ll do our best to get everyone’s work in. Tom will demonstrate glazing techniques with our studio glazes and specialty glazes that he will provide. Techniques include brush decoration, pouring, layering, spraying, and more.
Tom primarily works in porcelain and his glaze application techniques are specifically designed for those clay bodies.
We ask that participants use either porcelain and/or white stonewares.
Participants will glaze their work with Tom and will load the kiln with him, too! The kiln will be fired after everything is loaded. The goal is to start the firing by the late afternoon.
If time allows in Day 1 (Friday), Tom will start his throwing demonstrations which will continue into Day 2 (Saturday) and 3 (Sunday). The kiln will be unloaded on Day 3 (Sunday), followed up with an informal critique and discussion about the various pieces

2 Day Workshop Package

In this 2-Day event, learn about Tom Coleman’s signature throwing and altering process that he has been developing for almost 40 years. Tom is a master in porcelain and will be demonstrating how to throw various forms on the pottery wheel. He will be throwing large sectional forms and also making smaller objects such as teabowls, mugs, cups, plates, and more. Lastly, Tom will be showing how he decorates his forms with colored slips and underglazes.
Saturday, August 14th: Tom will begin his throwing demonstrations, which will include altering, slip decoration, and more.
Sunday, August 15th: Tom will continue working on the forms he made on Day 1. This will include trimming, refining, and more decorating. He will also be unloading a kiln and talking about the glazes along with the firing process.

Day 1
Friday, August 13th:
Glazing and Firing
Participants may bring 12 to 15 bisqued pieces. Dimensions need to be within 6" × 6” x 6” (cups, mugs, bowls, tea bowls, smaller vessels). Tom will demonstrate his glazing techniques with our studio glazes. Techniques include brush decoration, pouring, layering, spraying, and more. Participants will then assist Tom in filingl the 12 cubic ft Geil kiln, along with his pieces.
Tom primarily works in porcelain and his glaze application techniques are specifically designed for those clay bodies. We ask that participants use either porcelain and/or white stonewares.
Participants will glaze their work, applying the techniques he demonstrates onto their bisque work, alongside Tom and will also load the kiln with him. The kiln will begin firing after everything is loaded. We hope to start the firing by the late afternoon.
If time allows in Day 1, Tom will start his throwing demonstrations, which will continue into Day 2 and 3.
Day 2
Saturday, August 14th:
Throwing, Altering, and Decorating
The kiln will be firing during the day. Tom will be demonstrate and talk about his his signature throwing techniques throughout the day. He will be focus on throwing and altering large porcelain forms with slip decoration. In addition, he will be make tea bowls, cups, mugs, plates, bowls, and much more!
The kiln will be fired off later in the day and will cool over night so it can be unloaded on Day 3.
Day 3
Sunday, August 15th
Finishing Thrown Forms, Kiln Unload, and Discussion
Tom will finish and trim any forms he made during Day 2. This includes any alterations, cutting, and refining. After finishing the thrown work, Tom will unload the work and also discuss the various effects reduction firings have on finished glaze-wares.
All the pieces will be set out on a table for a discussion, informal critique, and overview of the work.
