We are excited to bring together two dynamic artists, Grayson Fair and Natalia Arbelaez. Both are current resident artists at the American Museum of Ceramic Art and have distinct working styles that will be showcased in this event on Sunday, June 13th.
Graysons work deals with ‘action and gesture’ within hand-built, extruded, and wheel-thrown forms. Natalia’s work deals with hand-built zoomorphic forms that relate to material history, including her interest and extensive research in Columbian art.
The event will start with an artist talk and lecture, then followed with demonstrations and an open Q & A until the end.
There will be a break with food and beverage provided.
Grayson Fair: Action + Gesture
Grayson’s work deals with 'action and gesture' within hand-built, extruded and wheel-thrown forms. Grayson will be diving into his process which includes unorthodox ways of manipulating slabs, creating conglomerate sculptures, contoured oxide decoration, gestural sgraffito, and much more!
Natalia Arbelaez: Zoomorphic Forms
A sculptural, figurative clay demonstration that covers all aspects of forms. From playful zoomorphic forms to material history. Natalia will demonstrate a combination of pre-Columbian techniques to quick studio tricks like pinch, coil, and solid building. She will also demo surface techniques of using Majolica like glazes with stains, and cover using research, concepts, and having fun in the studio.
